Why a Shared Vision Is the Key to Building the Future We Deserve

Shared Vision

If we want a better world, we have to start by imagining it.

Today, many of us are working hard for social change — in our homes, our communities, and in the world at large. But what often holds us back isn’t a lack of passion or effort. It’s the absence of a shared vision for the future we want to build together.

Without a common story, without something we can see, feel, and rally around, it’s easy to feel fragmented or lost. Movements slow down. Progress stalls. Hope flickers.

That’s why I’ve been thinking deeply about the power of collective action and community vision: what it looks like to dream boldly, imagine freely, and build something that belongs to all of us.

I recently wrote about this on my Substack, Balance Shared. In my latest post, I lay out my personal hopes for the future — a future where we all have access to clean air and water, where healthcare and education don’t come with crippling debt, where our basic needs are met, and where we are free to live safely and authentically.

But this can’t just be about my vision.

This has to be about all of us.

I believe that to create real collective action, we need to gather as many voices as possible and find where our dreams and values overlap. That’s how real power is built — not by a single person imagining a future alone, but by communities co-creating it together.

This is where you come in.

Along with the article, I’ve included a short survey. It’s designed to be quick and easy — a few minutes of your time to share what you value most and what you want to see in the world we’re building.

Your voice matters. Your dreams matter. The world you want to live in matters.

How You Can Help Shape the Future We Deserve

  1. Visit my Substack: [https://substack.michellelasley.com]

  2. Read the full article on creating a shared vision for change.

  3. Take the survey linked at the end of the post and share what matters to you.

The more people who participate, the clearer and stronger our shared vision becomes. Together, we can start telling a new story — one rooted in hope, justice, and community.

If you believe in building a future where everyone can thrive, I invite you to join me. It starts with imagining a better world — and acting on it.

Let’s dream boldly. Let’s build bravely.

Thank you for being part of this important work.

Journey Home: Reflections from 10,000 Feet

As I sit on the plane, surrounded by the hum of the engine and the chill of the window, I can’t help but notice the person in front of me repeatedly adjusting their seat, each movement a grating assault on my laptop screen. The journey back to Portland, high above the clouds, prompts reflections on the comforts of home and the complexities of travel.
