So tired! The first week of school is so exhausting! We’ve survived day two. This year, we are doing a new system to help manage behaviors. This year, the teacher has more than 20 years experience. This year, we have three years of schooling, one at the same school, under our belts. This year, we finally acknowledge the need to honor transitions. This year, we had the uniforms and school picked out before the first day. This year, we have a jump on getting up and getting prepped.

Here’s to first grade!

As I sit on the plane, surrounded by the hum of the engine and the chill of the window, I can’t help but notice the person in front of me repeatedly adjusting their seat, each movement a grating assault on my laptop screen. The journey back to Portland, high above the clouds, prompts reflections on the comforts of home and the complexities of travel.
